The 5th edition of the Capital Market University Challenge kicks off on a high note

The Capital Market Authority (CMA) conducts the 5th edition of the Capital Market University Challenge from 6 to 26 March 2018 in collaboration with the Rwanda Stock Exchange (RSE), Economic Policy Research Network (EPRN) and the International Association of Students in Economic and Commercial Science (AISEC), the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (ICPAR) and the Rwanda National Investment Trust Ltd (RNIT).

The main objective of the Capital Market University Challenge is to create awareness among students while they are still in learning institutions and just before they join the workforce. Interesting and competitive activities will attract their interest which will encourage them to participate.

The acting Executive Director of the Capital Market Authority, Eric Bundugu noted that “As part of the public education and awareness campaigns, the Capital Market Authority (CMA) organises the Capital Market University Challenge on an annual basis. The competition is aimed at exposing university students to the capital market industry while instilling in them the culture of saving and investment as future professionals and investors.”

 One group who participated in the 4th edition of the Capital Market University Challenge from the University of Rwanda had formed a six-person students’ savings group, where members were contributing Rwf 3, 000 monthly from February 2017. Then later they were among the top four winners awarded Rwf1.1 million in both essay and quiz competitions. The team registered a company, Brave Statistical Analysts Group, which has so far trained 120 university students in using statistics software, like Data pro.


Prizes in Quiz category:  All winners will be awarded in the form of shares:

Overall winner: Frw 1,500,000

2nd winner: Frw 1,200,000

3rd  winner: Frw 800,000

In Essay category, winners will be awarded as follows:

Overall winner: Frw 500,000

2nd winner: Frw 300,000

3rd  winner: Frw 200,000

Over 1,200 students from 210 clubs of different universities across Rwanda have registered to take part in the forthcoming fifth edition of the Capital Market University Challenge 2018 competition.

Students from all universities and higher learning institutions across Rwanda registered to participate in the challenge, and they learn how they can save and invest through the capital market.

Timeline for the Challenge

*On 10 March 2018; we will cover Northern and Southern provinces at UR CASS, Huye Campus and UR CAVM respectively from 9am – 12pm.

*On 13 March 2018; we will cover Eastern and Western provinces at UR, Nyagatare Campus and UTB Rubavu respectively from 9am – 12pm.

*On 20March 2018; we shall cover the City of Kigali at AUCA Masoro Campus from 9am – 12pm.

* The closing ceremony of this year’s campaign is scheduled on 26 March 2018 at Kigali Serena Hotel from 2:00PM to 4:00PM through which an awarding ceremony to top performers of the 5th edition of Capital Market University Challenge will take place.
